Aloysius - an HTML5 puzzle game
Hi!,
My little labor of love is playable now; the demo's got 6 levels.
It's a non-continguous variation on the knight's tour puzzle. Your ship moves like the knight in chess, and you've got to move to some squares more than once. You can "ace" a level by performing a closed-tour, which just involves finishing a level on the square you started at.
I haven't implemented the ships' special abilities yet, so clicking on that will do... nothing! Amongst other things unattended to.
The game is designed for mobiles, (although I haven't completely optimized it yet.) So if you've got an iPhone or Android, and you want to test it, I'd really appreciate it.
Forewarning: the campaign is linear, and it's got an auto-save function (rare for an HTML5 game from what I've seen.) No gosies backsies.
I don't have a suitable mobile device, but I tried it in Firefox (3.6, running in Fedora 14). I don't care for the gameplay, but it's all very polished and responds well. My computer being seriously old by now, that's noticeable. Especially as most other HTML5 games I've seen aren't optimized at all. Thumbs up!
I played it with Firefox 10 on Windows 7 and Dolphin HD on Android 2.2. Each time it worked flawlessly. A little bit of the bottom was cut off on my Android, which has a 480x800 screen, but it didn't affect gameplay.
As far as design, it looks good and is solidly built. I suggest changing the numbers representing how many times a space must be landed on; they don't match the theme of the rest of the game. Otherwise good job. It looks promising.
I have to agree: the polygons seem a little confusing. Another graphic representation
might be better, for example a shape that is made up of as many pieces as it must be landed on. I'm imagining a series of concentric rings like a bull's eye.
However, I think the numbers would be fine with a different look. Maybe if they looked technological or spacey or even earthy to represent planets.
Also, the Help page could be a little more thorough. I'm not sure I could have figured out how to play without the explanation in your post.
