'8-Bit Adventures' Sprite Work - Looking for Quotes!
Hello everyone,
My name is Joshua Hallaran, and I make games under the company name Critical Games. Previous commercial titles that I’ve developed include Path of Thanatos, 8-Bit Adventures: The Forgotten Journey, 16-Bit Game Quiz, and Martian Mix-Up.
I’m currently working on a large update for the game 8-Bit Adventures in anticipation of its release to a new audience, and I would love to get some improved visuals. Originally I drew all of the graphics myself, but I’m not a pixel artist, and the quality is much lower than I would like.
So I am looking for an artist to redraw a large number of the graphics - namely tiles, character sprites, and battlers (although the first two are the most important). To be upfront, I don’t have a lot of money, and this may well cost more than I could afford. However, I would really appreciate it if I could hear some quotes and get a general idea of the cost from artists.
As the game’s title suggests, the visuals are meant to imitate 8-Bit NES games. To help kick this visual enhancement off, I’ve started using this wonderful set of RPG assets made by Surt here on OpenGameArt (http://opengameart.o...d-2-blow-harder). Pay more attention to the tiles than the characters, but this is the style of graphic I’m looking for – something similar and equivalent in quality.
The game is developed in RPG Maker XP, and so assets need to be made with the 32x32 tile size in mind. However, if it helps, they can be drawn at 16x16, as graphics of this size generally enlarge to 32x32 quite nicely. That’s actually what I’ve done with those assets made by Surt that I linked above (they’re only natively 16x16).
But just how much work is involved? Well, quite a bit. Rather than try and explain it, I feel that it’s easier to simply show you. Back in May, I released the assets I’d made for free here on OpenGameArt. They can be found here, in addition to some screenshots of how the game currently looks (for those that are curious): http://opengameart.o...es-rpg-game-art
If you look in that pack, and check the Battlers, Characters, and Tilesets folders (specifically ‘8-Bit Tileset NES Version’ in the latter), that’s everything that needs to be remade. As I mentioned above, battlers are extraneous. I’d like to get them done, but my primary concern on a limited budget is the tiles and characters.

Thank you all very much for looking, and I would sincerely appreciate any quotes that could be provided. Also, if you have any idea of the length of time the work would take, I would appreciate your inclusion of that information in the quote.
If you need anything else, please just let me know =)
