So I've been pitifully attempting to make my own images for a game I've made, coding wise, however I'm finding it difficult to make images the blend together well and especially hard to make backgrounds.

If anyone has any advice, or links to useful tutorials it would be much appreciated.

I've attatched a screenshot of my game using various tile map images I've made. Some, such as the waterfall and gem, are animated.

I'm looking for anything that might help give inspiration to make either background images, tiled ground images ect...

Thank you! :)

EDIT: So I've been playing with the idea of turning the graphics into a 'LIMBO' type game, where everything is dark and minimalistic. However, it turns out a lot of those games focus heavily on having good graphics, guess I'll find out soon...

From what is shown it looks nice. Sometimes making things over complex can be too much and more simplicity is nice to have.

Look at games like Super Mario World
and FEZ
they have similar elements to what youve provided and may help you get an idea of color combinations and composing backgrounds.

if you have any more assets you want to show off that would be cool to see and may help me understand your issue a bit better.

Honestly I've been mainly working on the code for the camera movement lately so I haven't made any other tile sets than the ones shown in the picture.

I've posted another comment on the original post outlining what I may try out though
