Here's a few files to show the creation of depth in a scene through colour and depth of field blur.  

The tutorial is over at my blog 2D gameart for programmers.

The archive includes the inkscape vector file and layered gimp and psd file as well as the separated planes.

Just a little note to say thank you, thanks to your tutorials now I have 2 finished characters in 3 days (And I hadn't used Inkscape before).
