Sites and magazines to read about gaming
Hi all,
Are there sites and magazines that people in Opengameart.org follow religiously or something? For e.g. I follow http://freegamer.blogspot.com and sometimes http://planet.freegamerdev.net but apart from that I don't know many sites. Gamsutra is another one which I sometimes read to know what's happening but that's the extent to what I know.
In India,Southeast Asia, the land where I come there is/used to be a magazine called Gaming World or something like that but that is/used to be pretty erratic production and delivery schedule. The idea of the magazine used to be bi-monthly but at the most 2-3 issues they could get out in a year.
The magazine itself wasn't very great as it used to just have previews and reviews of upcoming and in the market games.
There was no indepth articles on the creation side of the business which could have helped grow the market as well at that time.
Do you know of any such sites and magazines which have inspired you or you would like to share with others.
In mainstream media also, there are only couple of TV CG gaming shows I know 'The GAME' or simply 'Game' which comes on ESPN Sports and 'Glitch' Both of these are usually about big franchisee games such as 'Assasin's Creed' , 'GTA' or any of such big releases. There is nothing there about casual gaming or even independant releases.
It would be nice to know such sites where a wide variety of enthusiasts meet and creative ideas galore. Opengameart.org is one of the potentials of course ! :)
http://www.mmofront.com/ not about opensource, but mmo's of all kind
and I check http://sourceforge.net/search/?words=&sort=latest_file_date&sortdir=desc... from time to time
and http://www.devmaster.net/ is interesting as well.
http://blendernation.com is good for keeping up with Blender news, a lot of which is applicable to gaming. I also recommend:
Thanks for putting your trust in FreeGamer ;) I apologize for the low number of posts lately ;)
Pretty good is http://www.tigsource.com/ for indy games... much of it is closed source though.
Otherwise there are a bunch of good Linux-gamng site, which by the nature of the game are also mostly about open-ourse games (random order):
