One of the many iterations of Midi I never got around to finishing, but I figure there's enough for a game in this one, so I decided to release him.

Nice addition!
I am a bit worried about the license you've linked to, though. Although the KLC license is mostly compatible with CC-BY-SA, there are references to character concept IP that conflict. Specifically:
If you're releasing this as CC-BY-SA, you should remove references to the Midi character concept here, making this a generic squirrel character that happens to look a lot like your proprietary character concept but is not directly associated with KLC. Otherwise, you're releasing the Midi character concept under the same licnese (with no additional restrictions)
I don't think there's an issue leaving the Midi and KLC references here, but in that case you should not be linking to a separate license. This is true for any other submissions in a similar situation. Would you be willing to make some adjustments to avoid confusion? Let me know. :)

FWICT, applying trademark-related rules doesn't interfere with CC.
True, and as you can see on the page you linked to, the caveat is an implied license to use your trademarked content in ways your KLC license forbids:
Conflicts with
Note that the component of the CC FAQ in the link:
...is basically what I was suggesting:
Placing this asset under CC-BY-SA does not infringe or weaken your trademark, but if you're including the character concept as part of the asset, you're giving others permission to use the character concept in ways you may not approve of. Your trademark remains intact, but
your desire to restrict how others may use it is in conflict.the way in which you want others to use the trademark is unclear.PS. I feel my post came off as "this is a licensing problem!" but it was more about clarity. As you pointed out, there really isn't a license issue, I just want to be sure people don't unkowingly abuse your generosity. The desire is for clear understanding, nothing more. :)
I dunno, seems pretty simple to me. If it's just a plain old fun game, then it's free to include Midi and the gang, otherwise, keep them out or change them. The character himself isn't fully open; there's rules to how he can be used, but the asset itself is. Either you use him as he is within the rules, or you're free to change him into someone else. I have the SA part on there, though, so that if you are going to use my character as a base for your own, you let others use your sprite the same way.
I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but I just don't see what's unclear about that.
Think medicine storm reconises that not everyone quite understand licenses fully well, so they just want to be clearer on the 'trademark' side of things for this asset maybe.
For example is the name 'Midi' part of the trademark for KLC? / "There are rules on how he can be used"
"the origin of KLC must not be misrepresented" / "your free to change him into something else"
the 'copyright/attribution notice dirrectly' links it to 'Kyrodian Legends' which is a stipulation of the license, even if changing the sprite, the license still requires you to share the title of the assets as well. as that title has 'Midi' in it, if this is trademarked or part of the KLC then there is no getting away with this assets association with KLC, regardless of what changes you make.
What medicinestorm suggests would make more sense and lessing the questions around the license attribution and associated links to KLC. Lose the name 'Midi' from the title, change the attribution to read Kelvin Shadeing/Nick Kovac instead maybe. Then there is no worries for the user, and no worries for the trademarked KLC to be misrepresented. :)
* Your use of KLC must not infringe on the Kyrodian Legends trademark. All non-offical/fan works must include a disclaimer indicating that any and all views expressed are soley limited to the work, and do not necessarily reflect the views of Nicholas "Kelvin Shadewing" Kovacs, and must not include the official Kyrodian Legends logo.
* You may produce commercial merchandise, provided you do not mislead people into believing the products are officially endorsed, and do not prevent others from using the same KLC in their own merchandise. All physical products must have their schematics/blueprints/patterns/material lists/etc. released under CC-BY-SA 4.0, and any and all patents must be made freely usable under a copyleft license. You also agree not to prevent or penalize any reverse engineering and/or reproduction of physical KLC merchandise.
Alright, how do these sound instead? Instead of restrictions, just make it clear the work isn't offical or endorsed.
