This asset was generously commissioned by Sander Frenken for his game Herodom on the iOS App Store (website). Thanks Sander, and please check out his game (made entirely with LPC assets!!). This asset was originally released to my Ko-fi members here but is now available for everyone!
This tileset is super modular, allowing lots of differently-sized and -shaped boats. Use is a little complicated, so check out the included Tiled map (if you've never used Tiled before, check it out: it's an awesome free and open source level editor. You don't need it to use the tileset, it's just a convenient way to show you how I put together a complex image from tiles). A few other tips that might be helpful:
- Use at least 4 layers: deck, ship, masts, and sails. If you have multiple sails per mast, it's easiest to stack them on additional layers. You might end up with a lot of layers and need to flatten some of them to work efficiently in your game. I wanted to provide as much flexibility as possible, so I separated everything out instead of trying to create every combination possible.
- This GIF shows how the mast, sails, and rigging are constructed from several layers:
- The masts are extremely long, but just cut them to the height you need and choose the top/bottom for the desired height (they should be aligned).
- The ratlines (the ladders formed by shrouds leading up the mast) can also be cut to any size; if you want, choose the appropriate tackling connectors from the same level to connect the bottom of the shrouds to the hull.
- The ratlines/shrouds don't go all the way up the mast; you can insert a top partway up; you might want to use some futtock shrouds to stabilize the top. Technically the round crow's nest should probably go on the very top of the mast, but eh whatever, this ship doesn't need to be seaworthy, do whatever looks cool!
- Railings and quarterdecks are provided as separate cutouts to be placed on additional layers so that you can put stuff behind them, like cargo or people.

It's out! These are amazing, bluecarrot!
shame there's under 100 downloads one month later, as I'm commenting. This is pretty important for big sea shenanigans in any LPC game. Hopefully as we get more water-related tiles... another area I was thinking of working on
