[LPC] 1 Hairstyle, 2 Hair Extensions, & 3 Previously Unofficially Released Hairstyles (UPDATE 11/9/24: Added to All Frames w/Animations and Redrawn Topknot!)
UPDATE 11/9/24:
Been struggling how to handle the redrawn topknot, but I finally came back and finished this.
I redrew the topknot a few months ago but mulled over whether to completely replace the old one or not. I think the new one looks far better, but I don’t like replacing assets completely if there’s significant differences.
I ended up splitting the ponytail part of the topknot out into a separate assets to allow for the Ponytail to be added to any asset, renaming the base asset into “Side Parted w/Bangs”. Side Parted w/Bangs 2, then, is the revamped version of the original hairstyle. I considered keeping both topknot versions (just the ponytail asset itself), but decided against it because they didn’t look different enough.
The running hairstyle for the topknot is a lot closer to my original idea for Xlong Ponytail which has it being quite high and swaying back and forth. It took a few attempts to get the frames out to my liking. I do wonder if maybe the side run pose has the hair going too far down and perhaps it should stay high up, I’m not sure. That said, it could be useful to have hair running frames where the first couple frames have the hair lifting up, and then it stays high after that…
For Jewfro and Side Swoop I didn’t put a lot of effort in. I just did some simple skews to make the running animation look good. I really don’t like Side Swoop’s north facing animation… but I didn’t feel like redrawing it.
I also made Child versions of ALL of these assets! There really aren't a lot of animations here for Jewfro and Side Swoop, but the Topknots are fully animated on Jump.
Original post:
After a decade-long absence I decided to get back into spriting again...
I went ahead and made a brand new hairstyle I'm calling the Side Swoop, which is inspired by Saria from LOZ: Ocarina of Time.
This was basically a warmup for me getting back into LPC spriting. I created a Saria sprite for LTTP Randomizer a couple years back so I decided to try porting it into LPC. Porting was a miserable failure so I ended up completely recreating it from scratch.
For the child variant I didn't put much effort into it, I just resized the sprite in Aseprite to the point where it looked decent enough.
Furthermore, I have three additional hairstyles I made a long time ago, but never posted. They WERE added to the Universal LPC Character Generator:
https://sanderfrenken.github.io/Universal-LPC-Spritesheet-Character-Gene...
These styles include Topknot, Longknot, and Jewfro, originally here: https://opengameart.org/comment/28696#comment-28696
I fixed up the positioning and did some minor cleanup, but they're mostly identical.
The Extra Long Ponytail is not currently on the ULPC, as a result, I decided I'm going to remake that one instead of posting it up as is.
Finally, to cap this off I have also created a new hair extension (designed to go over any hair style) that is a Left and Right Braid. This was loosely inspired by the edit I made way back when:
https://opengameart.org/content/lpc-curly-hair-elven-ears-white-cape-wit...
But I made a better braid this time inspired by Nila122 & ElizaWy's braided hairstyle that can be found on the ULPC:
https://sanderfrenken.github.io/Universal-LPC-Spritesheet-Character-Gene...
All new assets in the zip files have support for run, jump, idle, and sit. All assets except the old hairstyles have adult and child forms (the old hairstyles only have adult forms). However, I only added them to the positions that already exist in the ULPC code base.
All of them also have all currently available color variants on the ULPC. I used bluecarrot16's lpctools (which I had to clean up a bit to get working as well as create all the current palettes as the palettes on lpctools are outdated):
https://github.com/bluecarrot16/lpctools
I have seen lifting, pushing, and pulling animations, but they weren't in the ULPC source so I didn't add those. Child is also missing running animations and a few "universal" animations.
For consistency sake, I have added both OGA-BY 3 as well as the new OGA-BY 4. I don't really know the difference but I want the options to be available.
UPDATE:
I think due to a misunderstanding, the old assets I made were listed as being under CC-BY-SA 3.0 on the ULPC:
https://sanderfrenken.github.io/Universal-LPC-Spritesheet-Character-Gene...
To maintain consistency, I have listed this under CC-BY-SA as well.
* NOTICE:
Base sprites used in preview image are part of the LPC set and were not made by me, these hairstyles assume you are already using the existing LPC base models.
The Universal LPC Character Generator is a great place to get a full list of sprites to use (I will be working on getting these new assets added as well):

Comments
I added the base spritesheet to each of the new elements I added. The zip file contains all recolors, child versions, and alternate actions.
I'm going to try and actually keep up with adding assets this time as I really want to actually do something now.
I'll be opening a pull request to the ULPC (https://github.com/sanderfrenken/Universal-LPC-Spritesheet-Character-Gen...) with these new updates ASAP.
Welcome back!! Cool to see some new hairstyles being added and cool to see a new (old) contributor to the LPC!
Yeah I noticed you were working on the LPC stuff as well. I basically had some stuff happen at work that really pushed me into the idea of wanting to try making a game again, so I looked around for options and ultimately decided to go back to LPC. I'm in a much better position to actually stick around this time than I was last time, and if I actually want to finish a game using LPC assets I'll need a decent chunk of assets, so I'm likely going to be doing quite a bit of work on it.
That being said, once I have a small handful of stuff to work with I'll probably start at least trying to compile something a little simple before going into a much bigger idea. I still need enough assets to design a good chunk of my races and notable major characters, though.
I'll probably also be working on trying to convert some existing assets to alternate actions and child sets, too.
So I updated the original post here to contain the full sets of animations now. All of these hairstyles now have animated run, jump, and combat animations. However, I didn't put a lot of effort into Jewfro or Side Swoop. They only have pretty basic animations.
The Topknot styles have way more effort put into them, with a full animated run for both ponytail styles, and I added a new redrawn version of the base hairstyle here, too. I kept the original one as well, though I didn't think the old version of the ponytails themselves were different enough to justify keeping both versions and animating both.
In addition, the ponytail itself is now a separate layer which can be added to any hairstyle, but it has been tested best with its original base style, of course. I renamed the base hairstyle to Side Parted w/Bangs. All of these hairstyles are also now available on Child, when originally only Side Swoop was.
