Why not just turn him on the back and you will have your "death" animation.

The funny thing is....most programmers (like me) program the sword animation seperate from the sprite. That way the sprite character won't be *Cough* swinging or holding the sword while walking. Although, the sword animation is done quite well. I have to admit that and it is still easy to use with a little bit of editing.
