It is a les-than-glorious wooden sign post... for anyone whose game style it happens to fit.

Now for a statement of the obvious:

For those who make graphics, there are but two options (for the stuff you don't sell): offer it to anyone who actually does want to use it, or leave it rot on one's hard drive. Now there are plenty of people out there making games, of all different styles, and generally speaking, what one person cannot use, someone else can, or even WANTS to. Many of those people cannot afford to hire a professional artist, so they come here. I'm not sure how many professional artists are willing to leave their very best work on here for free, but those who cannot draw a stick figure to save their lives are probably pretty happy that anyone is posting anything better than stick figures. In fact, there's probably some eccentric soul out there who cannot wait to find well drawn pixel stick figures for their genius RPG idea. And it'll be even harder to find well drawn stick figures that were not simply pirated from some obscure game or modified from some commercial tileset or the like! (Okay, maybe not stick figures, but... just about anything else.)

Personally, if I cannot use it, and I cannot really sell it, I prefer to share it. Even slightly (or even very) sub-par graphics can often be modified into fairly good graphics with a little tweaking.

Now for the good (and equally obvious) news! You don't have to download it if you don't like it or can't use it! ^_^

But since you're concerned for the quality and public image of the site, here's a great idea. As you know enough about art to be the guardian of quality for it, you could REALLY improve the site more by adding your own, flawless, amazing, beautiful, absolutely perfect and professional grade graphics, because I'm sure everyone would really, genuinely prefer perfect, professional graphics for free, over this rubbish, any day! Heck, I know I would prefer it! And if you make enough of them, the rest of us can hang up our graphics tablets and just let you take care of everything. Which would be pretty darn cool. And you'd be famous, too! Think of the employment opportunities you'd have, man! You'd be the hero of the whole empoverished indie game making scene! I mean... it just couldn't get any better than that! It's a win-win situation all around!

But while we're waiting for you, and other magnificient and benevolent art professionals who have no need of a day job, to come and toil endless hours for us for free, just consider our lowly peasant's rubbish to be a place holder for your future masterpieces. It will keep the site running till you and the other philanthropic artists can finish up your library of perfect, free grpahics. And just think... the worse our graphics are, the better YOUR magnificent graphics will look when they get here.

So you see... there are all kinds of pretty good reasons for us to post our lackluster stuff on here! >grin<

Ok. You can go ahead and check my grammar, spelling and punctuation now. I'm sure I've made some mistakes, and I know it's the greatest fun for some people. Someone's gotta provide the entertainment, right? ^_^

Have a nice day!

Heh. That's some long snark. Probably more defensive then was needed.

Your philosophy is sound, and I appreciate the desire to let anyone decide to use or not use what you contribute.

Or:

Thanks for posting!

dannorder: Yeah.... It probably was a bit much. >_<

But they didn't say anything about what is wrong with it. They didn't comment on what they even THOUGHT was wrong with it. They didn't even tell me it looked like a piece of bacon stuck on a pole. They didn't give an opinion of ANY kind. They just came in and acted like they'd just seen saw a toilet trout float by. What do you do with such a remark?

Sorry if I went too far, though.

I wasn't even that offended, actually. I just hate to think of those who are easily hurt, getting a comment like that.
