Midi Waffle
From my open source game universe, Kyrodian Legends.
Midi Waffle is a squirrel (canonically referred to as a Kholu) who has an affinity for bomb magic. His bombs come in the form of acorns, and can explode in flames, lightning, or ice. He also has moderate close-combat skills, but mainly depends on his use of explosives. He's also immune to his own explosions, but can still be hurt by others. If he jumps while standing on his own landmine, it'll explode and let him jump higher.
The transphere is functionally similar to a morphball, but its rolling animation is not played while standing still, and it is susceptible to slopes, even in 2D. There is currently no spiderball variant, but the springball function is standard with it. He can use his bombs to boost, which when mixed with the ball's own jump, lets him do long jumps.
Midi's personality is very similar to Rainbow Dash from MLP or Genki from Monster Rancher. He's very brash and action-oriented, but he has a cuddly side, too.Genki's voice would also be a good fit for him.
I doubt anyone will be able to make any "lore friendly" content with this, given that Kyrodian Legends is still very young, but I figured I'd release this now since he's already complete. If you make any more poses, let me know, and I'll add them to the sheet and credit you.
If you'd like to support development of these characters, please consider supporting me on Liberapay.
Wanna play as him now? You can play as him in Starbound with this mod!
NOTES:
The frames without foreground arms are for throwing while moving. I'll add an arm animation later.
The sideways balls are for travelling along railed walls. I made different angles so that the shading would remain consistent. They still need to be touched up some, though.
Midi doesn't normally climb walls the way you do in Megaman X. His wall jump should be more like Metroid Fusion's, requiring the player to have a second wall to jump off of.

This is incredible!
this is pretty cool. are you developing a game or just the web comic?
Working on a game engine, but mainly the comic, although I'm not sure how I want to tie the comic story with the game or just make the whole thing an animated series instead.
Trimmed the tufts off his ears and added some newposes. I still need to clean up the wall sphere, though.
I have updated the platform and overworld sprites. Faces to be updated soon.
This is a cool looking sprite(s) but the only question I have is why does it have a Pokémon tag? Seems a little odd to an outsider like me
