Simple Spaceshooter Art for Open Source Project
Hi Folks.
I am happy I found this page and a lot of content here. However, except for 2 Asteroids and some Ships I did not find anything suitable.
So I would like to ask if anyone would be interested in helping me to make a playable demo for my project. I thought of a simple Topdownshooter, since my Project is a 2D GameEngine. The demo will be updated when my project gets new features.
For now, I have these things in mind:
- PlayerShip
- 2-3 different Enemies
- 3 different Weapons with Sound (Ball, Beam, Projectile)
- Background
- Asteroid
- 3 different Powerups (Health, Double Damage, Double Points)
- Parallax Background that consists of 2 Images with Stars which will be animated.
I will need them in .png with transparency in the alpha channel.
I really hope that anyone can help me. However, I will start programming today, if you want a playable Prototype first, let me know. But Programmer Art sucks when it comes to demos :D.
If someone wants to do a small Job only, I can also use a ProjectLogo that suits the Name of my Project instead of my Happy Bean :D. I have a Lighttower in mind, with a visible Lightbeam in the Night. Or something like that. Or a Lantern etc.
Contact me here or via scorcher24 (aht) gmail (doohhhht) com, or on my website. I am also on steam with the same nick.
Thanks for reading.
Hello,
Well, it has been recently demonstrated that one can make a top-down shooter using only OGA-derived assets (http://opengameart.org/forumtopic/retro-shooter-all-oga). If the ones up here aren't what you're looking for, you might want to check out Dan Cook's "Lost Garden" site. For instance, he released the graphics he did for Tyrian (that one awesome shooter game from way back when) under CC-By: http://www.lostgarden.com/2007/04/free-game-graphics-tyrian-ships-and.html
If none of that is what you're after, you'll probably have to be a bit more specific as to what you want. This looks pretty asset light, and the things you want are generally pretty fun to make, so you've probably got a decent shot at getting what you're after if you can be a bit more specific about size/resolution, style, etc.
There was a "Starter Set" weekly challenge some time ago.
Perhaps you'll be able to find there something useful.

Yeah, I have seen that package.
Hmm, does anyone know how to convert .svg into .png while keeping transparency?
Never had the .svg format before and none of my programs I posess can red it.
edit: nvm, gimp was able to do it. Totally forgot about :D.
http://opengameart.org/content/astrominer-sprites Just stumbled across these in Surt's gallery. The licensing isn't the most permissive, but the quality is great.
I made some spaceships awhile ago.

You can convert svg to png with the Gimp.
I've got my 'Space Lobster' I've made. Makes an interesting space enemy I think.
And I've also got an asteroid you can use.
dczanik: What license is this available under? Can you post these with appropriate tags so we can find it in search?
