Search terminology

what teminolgys are Devs using to search for stuff, I know most tags work, I just wondered if it would be good to have a better understanding of terminologys of what are being searched for, we may be searching for the same thing just wording it differently. I've been trying to search 8 way directional sprites, but I'm struggling to bring anything up, not just here, it's all a bit vague,So I'm working on a 8 directional Sprite, what would be the best tag/terminology, 8 way, 8 directional, or is there something else I'd be better using or adding? :)

some assets with 8 directions like you're referring to are not tagged with anything related to that. Sometimes you can find the ones lacking any sort of 8-direction tag by searching for the tags "sprite", "sprite sheet", or "spritesheet" and also "iso", or "isometric".

There are two related tags: "8 direction", and "8-direction". https://opengameart.org/art-search-advanced?field_art_tags_tid_op=or&fie...

As you can see, all the tags I've mentioned have an alias, so we're (me and the other admins) are working on a way to consolidate tag aliases so searching for one will show the results for both instead of having to wade through a buch of different versions of tags that all mean the same thing. It's a somewhat long-term goal, though.

@medicinestorm i read the other thread you are working on some things. pleased to here it. maybe some sort of 'Autotag' system may help(from what you find are most common or relevant to a particular asset), when submitting maybe you could have some tick boxes on what your uploading.

Tile set/16x16/Enviroment(forest)/Custom(NES)

Spritesheet/32x32/Custom(zombie)/Custom(NES)/Frames(walk)

Sound/Mood(peaceful)/Custom(inventory)/file(OGG)/Custom(chiptune)/Custom(famitracker)

@bonsaiheldin: haha! nice use of emojis. I know it's not as easy, but I'm glad to see it works for now.

@chasersgaming: that's a good idea. I think to start out, a static guide or flowchart may even be helpful to suggest tags based on what type of art you're submitting.
