If you admins think it's a bit too close to the inspiration, then I'm not too fussed if you remove it.
The only really Sonic-ish bit is the golden-brown checker tiles (I shouldn't think such a concept would be copyrightable and I've certainly played earlier games with checker tiles).

i have an idea to make it more unique when someone thinks that it is too close to the inspiration.
in this case then you could change the color, for example into blue and green

I like them, because it reminds of Green Hill Zone, but they give another feeling and they finally are quite nice!
Somebody should try these out with OpenSurge, perhaps.
It has a similar style to Sonic
It certainly has a similar style and one could say is inspired by it but I don't think it's close enough to constitute copyright infringement.

I've turned the sample image into a compact tilesheet with unique tiles
But there are missing tiles, like 2:1 slopes climbing to the right
Slightly extended version with animated waterfalls

I am using Godot 3.2.1 it needs this as each .png not all one big one.
