How do you think an open source Fakemon project could work?
Hi folks,
I've been working on Tuxemon for about six months. It's an open source monster battling game.
Tuxemon has revived my interest in Pokemon, and particularly "fakemon", which is where people make their own Pokemon-like monsters. Some of the monsters we're using in Tuxemon were originally designed as fakemon.
I am struck by the enormous productivity of the fakemon community: there are literally tens of thousands of fakemon that have been created, including many that are of excellent quality. Often, fakemon designers are very happy to share their work, but it's rarely via the Creative Commons licences: it's usually more ad hoc and informal.
So one thing that has been turning over in my head is whether we could reach out to fakemon creators and encourage them to use free and open licences. How could we draw them in? What value could we add to encourage them to participate? What would be a good way to describe the concept, to appeal to their interests and values?
Any thoughts?
It should work. given that tons live it.
Just contact Fakemon creators and ask them. Many probably do not even know about creative commons. Most Pokemon based creatures are based on real creatures or fake ones. Simplified manga monsters are not hard to draw because there are tons of references online to help.
0. You must make it easy for people.
1. References: Find many pokemon and Fakemon that could get people inspired. Fair use exists for non-commercial use in Japan and press. No mater what others say. People can get inspiration to make orginal art.

2. Community: Build a fancy looking forum that will hook people. Make sure to state that only inspirational references and commercial use creative common licenses are allowed. Proboards a free forum that is free and very easy to use.
3. Scout: Locate a bunch of Fakemon creators. If they say no, then by the power of FAIR USE you may use their work as references to create orginal art.
4. Message: Make one good message to send to the creators you located. Make sure not to spam.
5. You might have to output many fakemon and locate pokemon communities to share them in.
Changing a persons mind to make something free is like trying to swim to the moon. They either will or will not make it creative commons. This would be different if they are planning to sell their fakemon. In this stage you could convince them to use creative common because they could get support on Patreon for making art for free.
The only reason I will not help with this is because I am tired of turnbased monster games. What this world needs for once is an ARPG monster game, but that requires real effort.
Hello!
This would be a Great Idea! Someone actually did convince other people to share their Fakemon creations to his game and It still improving up until now. The Game was called MonsterMMORPG / www.monstermmorpg.com
He did it by creating an account on Devianart (http://monstermmorpg.deviantart.com/) and ask people to hopefully donate their artworks yet also giving back credits to them.

I will admit that it looks good, but I see no source code or free art packages.
They say, " We kept the Pokémon style game play, but are no longer infringing on Nintendo's copyright." Look at the image. I would say it is not legit.
Definitely no source code only something like this http://www.monstermmorpg.com/Credits
Actually I used to play the game and I notice some fakemon are totally rip off from other Canon stuffs... There is even a time that they put Godzilla on it and I had to report it on the Admin.
