A question about Gimp and Krita

I'm new to digital art (and every other form of drawing), and I've found two programs that interest me; Krita and Gimp.

- I was wondering which of those two are better suited for creating game assets larger than 128x128 px?

- I'm trying to open a transparent file in Krita on which I can draw, but I can't figure out how to. That is possible, right? I can set the opacity to 0, but then I can't see the canvas border, they become the same color.

- Would you recommend any tutorials on how to use Gimp or Krita (or on digital art in general). There are so many to choose from it's overwhelming.

Thanks in advance. :)

krita and gimp can both do what you ask. I prefer manga studio. also called clip studio paint. its 40 dollars and makes really nice linework. much better linework then krita and gimp.

Both progamms are suited for creating game assets. It's your choice which one you like more, but there is a difference between these progamms.
The main purpose of GIMP is to be a image retouching and editing software while krita is a tool for digital paintings.
