Sorry if a similar question has been posted previously - I tried to search for an answer but didn't find anything.

Is the No Derivatives option allowed?

E.g. Is this art (not created by me) allowed here?

No, -ND isn't on the list of allowable licenses.  These assets are not generally considered free or open.

how would you use it in a game if you can't even crop out the whitespace?

For example, since jpeg is not a lossless compression method, if you compress the png image source it will change some pixel. Thus the resulting jpeg will be a derivative work which is not allowed by ND part

The wording implies, though it does not explicitly state, that sort of modification does not constitute making a derivative.

That doesn't make it any more libre or useful for games, though.

mold - I would be able to use this image in a CCG type game where I stick a frame on top of the image in code. (so not manipulating the image).

Thanks for the answer though Redshrike - simple answer is no, it isn't allowed here.

:)

Even the answer to that is maybe. There was an inconclusive debate on the nature of derivatives in regards to games on this site. It was in the context of CC-BY-SA, but would also apply here.
