Request a Free Custom Made Character
Hello, I am an aspiring Pixel Artist who is looking for something to do and get feedback. You can request a custom made pixel art character free of charge. I will do the best I can to create you an enjoyable avatar that matches your wants and needs. There is no restrictions for use of these characters. You may use them for a variety of things. Need an interesting new profile picture? Screensaver? Or maybe you just want one for the heck of it! I do ask that if you choose to use this character for any projects, please notify me at Alfalfamire@gmail.com.
How to Make a Request: You can either send me an email at the previously specified address, or you can comment directly through OpenGameArt. You can specify clothing, poses, race, accessories, pets, backgrounds, hair, eyes, and anything else! Please allow 24 hours to hear from me, and 24 more hours to get the first draft of the character.
Don't Like it?: Tell me why! I'll be happy to make any improvents, alterations, etc. Still aren't happy? It's free! So no loss to you except the time it takes to request and view.
In Conclusion: I'd love feedback as to why you dislike (or like!) the character. I am still learning and want any available criticism! Say what you like, say what you don't like, say anything! I want to hear it.
I think its a cool preview, but and it would be a fun style if there were enough assets to make a whole game out of them. That said, the uniqueness of the style might make it harder to gel with other pixel art assets which tend to adopt a more "traditional" pixel art style. Its also very hard to tell from a single frame, I'd liek to see some animations for the character to know how it moves, and some more assets to be able to see how consistent the style is.
At the moment these are purely asthetic. Animations and other assets with this style may be posted later.
I like your attitude and ambition. I would like to suggest you make an Emanuel Augustus pixel person.
Meh, why not? I'm not much for pixel art anymore typically (mostly due to it being used as a crutch, old NES/SNES games still look beautiful to me...), but I guess since it's free, and you want criticism and practice, why not? It'll be something I can use for an avatar until I get unlazy enough to draw one myself... If you don't mind drawing something non-human, I'd like to see either Kyle the Caiman from ...Kyle the Caiman... or King NegaChomp Sting from Chomp's Wacky Worlds (working title). Good luck!
EDIT: Wow, just realized I actually did have an avatar here. Meh, change is nice anyway...
@GravityGames I'll try Kyle first. If you like it, I'll do sting after.
@christiandasi There are a lot of different pictures of him, from different times in his life. I'm not personally familiar with him, so is there a picture you want to link to show which version of him you'd like done? If not I can just choose one myself. :)

Kyle V1 is ready! What do you think?

I chose not to do shading because the actual character has none. However I can shade it if you would like. :)
Legs and arms are a bit too long IMHO, but not enough for the character to be unrecognizable. The hammer's a little dull as well, but so far it reminds me out of something from an Atari game, but without the 8 pixel width restriction. I guess I'll see what the shading looks like anyways, even though KTC's art style uses none.
It doesn't matter which version of Emanuel Augutus you do. Here is one https://cultureboxe.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/emanuel-augustus-vs-jaim...
I am playing this video on repeat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvkRpykP6mQ I don't watch boxing but I like watching him.
@GravityGames Looking at it now, I agree. I'll have V.2 to you sometime tomorrow. :)
@christiandasi I'll have the first draft of Emanuel to you sometime tomorrow as well. :)
I apologize for the delay, power was out all of yesterday. I will have it to you sometime tomorrow. :)
Found some time today after all. @GravityGames Here is your second version. Tweaked arm length and hammer and belly colors. @christiandasi This guy was tricky. He has such a unique look to him that was hard to capture with so few pixels to work with. However I ended up with a rather decent (in my opinion at least) Emanuel Augustus pixel art character. What do you think? Keep in mind I can do any improvements you wish me to do.

Thats awesome! I can't believe you actually did the leopard shorts i was expecting just yellow shorts. Very cool.
The background colors do not provide enough contrast. This makes it difficult to see the characters face. Simply changing the value(darkness) or hue(color) of the audience members should solve the problem.
Good job I hope you continue working on your pixel art.
I noticed the same thing, and was actually messing around with that. I'll send it to you when I get a good result. I'm glad you like it, and thank you for the feedback!
Here you go, I think this looks better.

Much better. He really pops into the foreground now.
Glad you like it. Would you mind if I put it in a sort of colleague with others to showcase some of my work?
It's your artwork. I don't care what you do with it. I am just glad you made it.
Cool. :)
i really have to say you have a great talent there sir
@jhito Thank you!
v2 looks much better! I was going to say you're free to use the art you drew for me in your preview, but you did anyway, so yeah. Feel free to do NegaChomp as well if you want the extra practice, or if you want extra practice and don't feel like drawing him, I could always pull up some artwork for another character of mine to use as reference.
Great! I'm glad you like it! I'll try NegaChomp and see how it goes. Hopefully I can pull off his tail without making it look too strange. I'll post a first draft soon. :)
Okay, if it helps, he's supposed to have a scorpion-like tail, but without being super armoured by an exoskeleton.
Can you make a pixel art of my icon?
