First, I'm glad to see someone using OGA rpg assets, and I appreciate you posting about it here.

That said, while I am intrigued I have only gotten two facts from your page: you (Paul) are a published specfic writer (whose work looks interesting to me) and the game is going to be expanded monthly.  OK, those are both good points and they definitely interest me.  But that is literally all I know.  Here are a few more questions you should be answering:

a) who is involved?  Is it a one-man show with Paul (it's unclear what Mandrake's relationship is to the project)?  If so, that's perfectly fine, lots of great games have been made that way, but it's kind of unclear.  When I'm considering plunking money down to support a project I'd like to know how likely it is to succeed, which means knowing who is working on it and what their experience is.

b) how far is development thus far?  The video didn't show much, and seemed to linger far too long on the character creation (a necessary part of the game but not exactly fascinating).  If all you can do right now is walk around and talk to NPCs, then you're probably too early along to ask for money.  Loads of devs make it that far but then stall when they are confronted with the more difficult and less rewarding realities of RPG development.  And if the game is actually further along, show us that stuff.

c) what are your plans for asset development?  OGA has a lot of resources for 16x16 resolution RPGs, but it's really not enough for a full-fledged game.  That applies double if you're doing dragon warrior style front-view battles.  There are a whole lot of side-view rpg enemies available here on OGA, maybe enough to keep you going for a while, but even then you're going to need custom graphics long term, and especially if you want development to follow your writing rather than the other way around.  So you're going to need at least one skilled artist, and that can get expensive real quick.

Happy to answer-

a- Pretty much a one man team

b- Only thing left is to actually create more of hte content. Combat, etc, is done. It's a full engine with a built in game editor, for making things extremely simple. (Mandrake is me- it's an old name I used to go by in some RPG circles from back in the day...like QBRPGs, RPDX (which I created), etc). Combat, items, etc. It's all done. I've been working on this for 3 years now. Its practically a game maker, with the way it can edit, etc. But not quite as robust as RPGMAker VXAce or OHRPGCE. I'll show more later, including a downloadable demo, but that will be nearer to the end of the month.

c- I have all the assets I need for a full fledged, DW/FF style old school style game, which are far more limited. And I really don't mind molding my game to the graphics and vice versa, since I can do some pixel art (I just find it less enjoyable. I perfer coding/map making/etc) for boss enemies, etc. The intro graphics (paralax scrolling clouds/sea, moon/etc) was all me.

Looks very cool. It reminds me of Dragon Warrior (aka Dragon Quest) 3 for the NES.

Excellent. You've got all the right answers, and it sounds like you have a great chance at succeeding. All id add, then, is that you should lead with that. There are plenty of people clueless enough to ask for money after making basic walking work, and you really don't want to look like one of them. Anyway, ill be watching this and hopefullyv throwing in some cash as well.

Thanks! To both of you. I do love DW 3. It's perhaps one of my favorite DW'ers.

And yes, I think I should've lead off with some of that? Still kind of getting used to this patreon thing. The video wasn't meant to show off the engine, funnily enough. They say you need a patreon video to talk to the people, to get them to pledge. And I'm shy, so I didn't want to be in front of the camera. So I decided to let the game talk for me. I think it might go on for too long, future videos will be shorter. I might shorten that one too.

I do understand your skepticism though- I just got to work on tweaking the patreon page

BTW, I have a still from the combat. I'll actually have a combat video up at some point. I also have a map editor video on the patreon page
