fish swarm for Unknown Horizons

Anonymous
Sunday, October 3, 2010 - 09:05

Hey guys,

we the Team of Unknown Horizons http://www.unknown-horizons.org/ need a swarm of small fish. See this for example http://ageofempires.wikia.com/wiki/Fish. They should be animated, jumping out of the water, like in other RTS games. The source should be/ will be licensed under the http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/legalcode license and made in Blender.

Maybe someone can help us to keep up development.

Feel free to ask what u want :)

Kind regards

We're happy to fill your request, but I have a couple of questions:

  • Are you looking for something suitable for pre-rendering, or something low-poly?
  • Is Blender 2.5 okay, or do you need it in 2.49?
  • Should they be visible while under the water, or just when they're jumping out?
  • Is there a way you can link an animation similar to what you're looking for?

Thanks!

Bart

Thanks for your questions:

  • it should be have the same size like this http://github.com/unknown-horizons/unknown-horizons/blob/development/con... , low poly should be good enough
  • like u want, not necessary to use a specific blender version and other programs would be also okay, but if u use a non free software, u are should be able to license your work. Btw. we are using only png files ingame
  • The fish should be visible all the time
  • Example: not really a good example http://www.angelfire.com/home/lake/images/1jumpdolphins.gif but i hope its clearer now, some fish (a swarm) are jumping uot of the tile (see first question). the should be partly visible all the time, so the user can recognize (all the time) that there are living fishes

Thanks

Would be pretty cool if you made it lowpoly, we could use it too then. But I don't want to hijack your request :)

Oh, good call!  It really just needs to be animated, then, which hopefully won't be too difficult.

If you guys need a reference, look at the fish from any of the Age of Empires series.  They want something, loosely, like that.  A patch of jumping fish, on open water, as a harvestable resource.
