Download counts were slowing the site down, disabled them for now
I know people liked download counts (I was fond of them myself), but they were responsible for a lot of the slowness of the site, so I disabled them for now. The trouble with a lot of drupal modules is that they aren't really optimized for larger sites, so they can really start to bog things down if there's a lot of traffic. At some point in the future, I'll try to build a custom download count solution that will work with OGA's heavy traffic. For now, I'm sorry to say that we'll have to do without.
I thought there might have been an issue. you wouldnt have taken that feature out for no reason. The download count didnt seem to distinguish different users every time anyway. so a single person even the submitter could download the file 30 times and go look i have 30 downloads. artifically raising the download count. does this matter in the grand scheme of things. likely not. I do get annoyed when I see a crap submission with 400 downloads. Sublective or not I know something isnt right.
Speaking of removing things that don't work right:
How about taking the ages off the active forum topics in the sidebar, as they appear to be cached and so are always wrong.
Red warrior needs caffeine badly.
They seem fairly accurate to me. I'm logged in bsaically all the time, though. If you're not logged in, you get a cached page.
