Test the OGA Sprite Builder!

Take a look at the OGA Sprite Builder!

It's extremely basic at the moment, but it appears to be working.  It uses an HTML canvas element, so apologies to IE users -- you guys are out of luck on this one (unless you're using the IE9 beta, which may be able to handle it).  As it stands, I've only tested this code on Firefox 4 beta, although I suspect it will run on most other current browsers.

Here's the link.  Just check the boxes until you get something you like, then press the "Export PNG" button.

http://test.opengameart.org/spritebuilder

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS IS ON THE TEST SITE!  REMEMBER TO GO BACK TO THE REAL SITE WHEN YOU'RE DONE!

The following features are already planned:

  • Color variations
  • Small preview images for sprite pieces
  • Multiple sprite sets
  • Clothes for the sprites :)
  • Ability to preview the whole canvas at once (in a lightbox, perhaps)

If you have any thoughts or ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Yeah, there's a reason for that.  Technically that head is behind the rest of the body, so I didn't deal with it, since it will have to be on another layer.  When this goes into production, I'll fix that.

Oh, nice. Works on Firefox 3.6.8 and Midori 0.2.6 (which uses WebKitGTK+ 1.2.1).

works on chrome.

nice job.

If you set hair 1 and 2 on at the same time he looks like a he is wearing a sweet ass mullet circa 1990. Awesome!

beautiful, its amazing.Few points :-

1. The only downer I see from this is there are no females. Even in sprites, just having males are boring.

2. Also there is just a single base, again atleast 3 odd body types like tall, fat, short skinny etc. would go a long way.

Its amazing though that you could come up with an online sprite builder (as a webapp. )

Arranging the sprite sheets was a pain in the butt, so I only did enough of them to conduct a reasonable test.  Once it's done, I'll add more. :)

Note: I've made an improvement.  You now get a visual preview of what you're adding to the sprite.
