Programmer looking for dedicated artist
Thursday, May 16, 2013 - 01:14
I'm a 40year old programmer, and I am looking for a dedicated artist to produce casual mobile games.
games will be simple casual fun games, and will be available for free. the main scope is that i want to use my game engine which I have been working on for 4 years now, to produce some real life results, for resume purposes.
i'm open to all kind of game styles, from 1 screen puzzlers to cute educational kids games, as long as the project can be achieved in 8-10 weeks. so no rpgs or complex dreams that will take 2 years to make.
thanks for your attention.
It's nice to see another veteran coder on here! I'm a programmer as well, with over 22 years industry experience, much of it as a game developer. I started out as a hobbyist in the early 80s on the likes of the Apple II and Commodore 64. My work took me in many other directions lately, mostly into robotics, but now that the casual gaming boom has made it possible for small teams to compete without a hollywood budget, I'm happy to get back into it again. I originally became a coder because of games, so it's nice to be able to have the option again and opportunities we haven't seen since the 80s and early 90s.
Like you, I came here primarily looking for art and hopefully an artist who might be interested in working on game projects. I do have a specific game design already as well as music tracks for use in that project as well as future games and sound effects. I've also been scouting around for another programmer to collaborate with, because working in a vaccuum is never good for creative flow, which is especially important for a game project. If you might be interested, feel free to let me know. In any case, best of luck with your projects!
Basically same life story here, started making games way back when I was 16 on the 8bit MSX.
Since I have my own game engine, it's more convenient to work alone on small projects.
I have around 7 different game designs I would like to do, but it all depends on finding the right artist for the right job
Hello bjadams,
Hi, I am a 29 budding game artist, I say that because although I have been involved in the multimedia industry in the past but haven't been able to break into mobile games as of yet. I have made a lot of contacts with developers and publishers alike and they all say this is the economy where we have to make our own jobs. I would like to link you to my game art website at mjillustration.com. I think you have the right idea as to which kind of games to persue such as casual, fun and even educational. With the publishers I have met I believe it would be possible to make profitable games, not just for resume material. If I may ask, are you located in the United States, I assume most people here are. I hope this message reaches you so we can speak further, thank you!
hi Mjohns84
I am located in europe not usa.
Its important to build a following of users before going head on to do profitable games. free games is a good medium.
one must have a good strategy before making a game, because no matter how good your game is, if people don't know about it, then it will stay unknown!
at this point in time i prefer to get involved in small casual game projects, or educational games that can be done in 3-4 months instead of big rpg projects that take years and get cancelled after a few months
hello bjadams
i'm wondering if your'e still looking for an artist? i am currently looking to get back into pixelart which i havent done in years and would really like to work on some small projects like the ones you described. since i currently dont have any projects of my own im just working on a little tileset just to flex the art muscles a little ;) you can have a look at it here: http://oi42.tinypic.com/2wpmn8o.jpg
