thinking of making a website just for "Doodles and doodle art"
Hello everyone, I have to make a website for university and i feel i should do it on something i love DOODLES! so i had this idea that i would make a website for people to upload doodles they are proud of. Im thinking of having 4 categories
Begginer
Semi-pro
Artist
Master Artist
If you google "doodle art" you will see exmaples of what i feel would be at master artist. So anyone in the world can submit their doodles depending on their skills range or time taken on doodle. Its dedicated to being just a heap of fun and not giving a crap about most of your work. I am thinking of perhaps having a dedicated page to pieces of art that start life as a doodle, As i myself have had many times when i am doodling and i get inspired.
I will be having my website linked to my university (so it will be looked at by many students and teachers) aswell as linking it to art websites, art shops etc so you little doodle that was for fun may become a hit with some artist and they may ask you if they can have your doodles or if you can help them with a project.
But before i start designs, layouts etc.. What does everybody think about this sort of idea?
All feedback is welcome (good or bad)
No one?
Forum activity fluctuates strongly -- there are days with dozens of posts, and then there are days where there are only a couple. In general, our IRC channel is probably a better place for asking questions such as this one.
Well, if you like doodles that much, that doesn't seem like a bad idea -- at least it will keep you interested.
Here's a problem I see with this approach: Who is going to decide which submission goes into which category? The submitter? You? Ratings/Votes? Aliens? ;) Instead of dividing the content into different categories, I'd rather just rank the doodles by freshness and quality, maybe using a variation of reddit's ranking algorithm.
Even (or especially ;P ) if your website will be linked to from your university's website, I wouldn't count on too many page hits. And frankly, the part about artists discovering one's doodles and wanting to license it doesn't sound too realistic, either.
Anyway, good luck with your project.
Based on page hits, I have made many websites before and improved thier SEO and page ranks so not only would I have to hope the link to and form university websites bring me traffic, but also I will be able to target the keyword "doodle art" and others.
Just wondering upon the concept. the technical details are easy its just the concept i needed clarifying
I wouldn't mind an art site that tried to compete with DeviantArt, because I really do not like DeviantArt. Most art sites like DA disappear after 2-3 years for lack of funding or lack of interest or just poor implementation and not enough time to fix it. I could help with development, but I'm busy already and really can't volunteer for such projects. However, I would definitely post some of my doodles. ;)
