Welcome to my new Friday Challenge!  Every week here on the Open Game Art forums we'll have an art showdown.  Everyone's invited!

The rules:

  • Your art must be open!
  • Each Friday I will announce next week's theme.  Usually it's a word or phrase.
  • The deadline is 12:00am Monday (9 days later)
  • Any genre, any medium!  2D, 3D, music, writing, all welcome!
  • Post your entry on OGA, and tag it with Weekly Challenge
  • We vote on the winner over the next week!

FAQs

Q. Is there a prize?

  • I'll get Bart to make a special Weekly Challenge Winner forum badge.
  • Winners propose a future Weekly Challenge theme
  • If the contest grows in popularity we might find sponsors to offer prizes.

Q. Why have a Weekly Challenge here at OpenGameArt?

  • Give new artists an easy entryway to OGA
  • A reason to check out OGA every week
  • A way to inspire our art community to make new stuff
  • Great for artist practice/warmup

Q.  I'm not an artist.  How can I participate?

  • Have a camera?  Shoot something with an interesting texture.
  • Have a mic?  Record something with an interesting sound.
  • Making a game?  Let us know: we can have a Weekly Challenge inspired by your game.

> Each Monday I will announce the theme.  Usually it's a word or phrase.

> The deadline is by the end of the day Friday (your time).

Would it not be better to set a standard time?  If you announce the word on your Monday (Do you live in the US?), and depending on the time of day you announce it, that would give those of us furthur east almost a whole day less.

This isn't the kind of contest where you even need Tuesday through Friday to be competitive.  The submissions we've gotten so far are on the right track: something fun you put together in about an hour.

Having a set time would provide clarity, though.

"Having a set time would provide clarity, though."

You start when you see the theme and you stop friday

If your a time cheapskate GMT +11 is last possible line (if your in Australia)

It's sometimes inconvenient to figure out what/how to add tags. There should be a line with only the tags for easy copy-paste. Like for today's:

Rules update!  I will start posting new topics on the previous Friday instead of Monday.  Some people might only have free time on weekends to work on these, and this will give people more time.
