The Last Score (2d fantasy apocalypse survival base-builder)
It's still in the early stages, but I'm using art form the Liberated Pixel Cup (and some other sources) for a survival basebuilder with a steampunk / alien / fantasy twist. Right now I'm trying to meet my MVP goals-- chopping trees for wood, searching a ruined house, building a fire, pitching a tent, harvesting crops, eating, and reproducing.
I'm using Unity2d for the game engine, specializing in C#, and everything in the screenshot was made with random world generation algorithms.
And, of course, have a link to my devblog.
Looks interesting i liked to play that but it seems far from finished :(
Thank you so much for the comment! :)
I'm working on it almost every day, and it's more done than it looks, given the language and the tools I'm using. For instance, it only has one tree because I'm tweaking how trees are dispersed and managed, and one crop because I want to get its growth cycle in properly before I make another ten plants.
(I'm currently bedridden and fighting a chronic illness, and working on code is one of the only things I can still do. I've almost finished a robust map generator that will make adding unique looking random biomes a snap, and once the world's made right, navigating through it will look nice and professional.)
We shall write more i think i am curious.
The map generator's in! I can make as many biomes as I want now-- just add the art, set the likelihoods of each feature and watch it change the look and feel. Trees can be cut, grass and dirt tilled. Randomly generated LPC characters have their walk animations set up.
Now I need to get the job system in place so the characters are triggering falling trees, not the 'chop' command. I also need to program an inventory system.
And again, LPC people, you're awesome. :D
(This is all procedurally generated, by the way. No level editing.)
Nice i will be keeping my eye out for this!
GMO Food = Death
This seems like a rather neat game in the making. I can't wait to see the complete work. I hope you are getting better as well.

Looks great! I like how there's a coherent art style. Looking forward to trying it out.

Thank you, everyone! I'll poke you once I've got a playable build for some early testing, when I get there. :)
In the meantime, I've got the basic job system and inventory items up and I'm working on a rough character UI. Growing plants and passing time are up next.
Hey, very cool to see the game coming along! I've been following along on your blog for a few weeks.
I know you said you plan to commission art in the future, but if you're interested in anything in particular being created in the LPC style, I'm happy to take a crack at it for free as long as the results can be licensed liberally.
Thank you, BlueCarrot! Both for the offer and the follow. I really appreciate it. :)
The commission I was considering is less LPC styled and more classic pixel-doll portraiture with additive features-- different face shapes, eye shapes, mouth shapes, different skin tones, that sort of thing. I'm willing to look at alternatives, but it seems like a lot to ask for free.
That said, LPC and the community here has had a big part of making this game possible, so what I'll probably do is buy the commission and then make it CC3-by-SA. It seems like a nice way to give back to you all, and I think it'd be really useful.
Portraits aside I do have an LPC wishlist I'll happily share. :) Right now, these things would come in handy:
My color pallete with five skin tones, for reference: I do have photoshop and a pretty spiffy tablet, so don't feel obligated. :) And thanks again for the offer!
Edit: I did the babies myself, so it's been removed from the wish list.
Can I help with this? I'm a programmer.

Hey Trent!
Let me get back to you a little later? I'm still having terrible drug reactions to my medication, but I'll write you once I feel alive again to get back to work. :) Thanks for the offer!
So, I'm finally starting to feel more human. Apologies for the wait-- changing one med's dosage and dropping another really threw me pretty badly. For a while there I could barely walk without help. :( I've got pills to make my drops much more mild, and I think I'm finally stabilizing.
This isn't a huge leap forward in progress, but I thought it was worth a share anyway. I was gifted money to buy game assets this Christmas by my dad (Yeah!) and I've purchased Chronos and Easy Save from the Unity store. I've started a code refactor, and now have a working day / time system. I think I'll emulate Rimworld and Stardew Valley and do 30-day seasons. The scaling will need to be playtested for balancing and such.
So, have some growing corn in the meantime. Cheers!
