[solved] sfx (eg. Skid, Countdown, Boost, Crash) for Kart Racing Game

Hello,

SuperTuxKart, a MarioKart-like game needs some sounds (short ones, long ones and loops) replaced and added.

  1. Race start countdown (bad attempt at replacing here)
  2. Bubblegum "too liquid(?)" (bubblegum is a trap: you put bubblegum on the floor - it slows down karts that drive through it)
  3. Collect item/nitro (we replaced that sound lately for legal reasons but the new one is not fitting [compare old ogg to new ogg ]
  4. Skid on asphalt (replacement for existing), grass, sand and dirt
  5. Nitro (boost-speedup while pressing key and having enough fuel) sound (LOOPING)
  6. Slipstream (If you stay behind an enemy kart for a while, you get a boost - could sound linke strong wind for example - see this thread for discussion - could wind from OGA be used?) (LOOPING)
  7. Slipstream charge (we could use a sound for not only the slipstream boost but also the slipstream charging, which is where you try to stick behind an enemy for ~4 seconds)
  8. "Feature unlocked" (In the game you can complete challenges and then you get a new feature presented in a short "treasure chest unlocked" animation - could be a short song/fanfare..)
  9. "Bubblegum dropped" (so far we use the same sound for placing a bubblegum trap and for driving into one)
  10. Reset button (When a kart falls down a pit, a 3d button with the tag "Reset" appears above the kart and has a "pressed" animation - reference to computer reset buttons)
  11. Plunger hits target (The plunger allows to attach to a foe's kart or to block their view when shot backwards - there is only a 'shoot' sound but no 'plunger hit wall or kart' sound)
  12. Crash (kart bumps into another kart or wall)

#1, #3, #4 and #12 are the most important sounds to be replaced.

I made a 2:36 video showing the context of the sounds and hope that it helps and inspires you.

If somebody knows of fitting freely licensed sounds or would like to create/remix some, the developers would be glad to hear them. Original authors get credited in the game.

Note: I cross-posted this request on the following forums:

hello there,

You look like you have a very interesting project :)

I just added some sounds based on what you wrote here so if any are useful feel free to use them:

hopefully some of them are useful, any comments and improvements are welcome and if you like those I might have time to make some more later :)

Scribe: That's quite a selection, thanks!

Were these recordings/synths you had lying around?

May I ask how you made them (especially the drive/wheel-squeak/engine sounds sound interesting but would be needed as loops).

Split files are more useful than one merged and .wav or .flac is preferable over .mp3 or .ogg but thanks and I'll try to replace some sounds in stk for testing now! :)

Hi, thanks for the message as I didn't get notified of your reply :)

About half of these I made myself and the other half are edited GarageBand loops, don't worry this is not a problem using them I have read their legal stuff,

as long as you don't sell the loops as loops they are completely loyalty free for use in a projects or combined in music and can be sold within a project and if they are edited as these are, again they are completely free to use :)

In a minute I'll upload a zip file with each recording seperate so you can more easily access and edit them.

Hopefully you'll make use of some,

Scribe
