I'd love to get my hands on some kind of olde ink type svg filter sothat it would fit on a parchmenty style map.. Maybe rendering it as a bitmap and then messing around on gimp might work

Yeah, GIMPing the PNG will work but you may so something with applying a few SVG filters: blur it a bit to get defocused, decease the color saturation, turn it sepia...

The outline version is nice, and I've seen some of the others on the clipart page, but they're a bit too well defined, I'd like to see some ink blobs and the like. Maybe decreasing the accuracy could do that?
