I like the 48x48 size for OpenGL based tiles. We will do 2px of spacing making a 500x500 texure... Your 32px set looks good too.

I would also really appreciate an updated 48x48 tilset. It seems there are lots of transitions missing. for example, how can I put one tile of grass in the middle of road tiles? I always follow this picture from gamedev.net:
