For the shadow, I just copied
Tuesday, December 2, 2014 - 02:31

For the shadow, I just copied the metal bars, offset the layer, then changed the mode to multiply. I tend to use grids a lot for placement,  and ripple effects are useful. The lighting was a dark grey layer set to multiply; I used a brush to erase the grey layer and put it between the bars and the bricks. Mostly it has been trial and error. Sometimes you have to go pixel-by-pixel or use a grid. A single pixel gaussian blur can make all the difference and even cover minor errors. Just keep trying different things, a year ago my textures were horrible. Thanks for the compliments, I like to help people improve their skills. My main weaknesses are living creatures (humans mostly) and music.

(My thoughts also tend to be discontinuous)

If that grass is yours, it is pretty good. Also your rocks are nice. If you copy the layer the cracks are on, a downward motion blur and setting the copy to multiply might give you some shadows. (if you are using paint, it is pretty good for such a limited program)

I should do 64x textures more
Sunday, November 30, 2014 - 07:45

I should do 64x textures more often, it is great to see my work being used. The game I was creating the islands for in blender is coming along great. The opening story is done, I just need to edit it a bit and add sounds and a lightning anim before the player gets to the island. It is mostly going to be a farming game and I try to put my progress on Patreon or tumblr. The human is not going to be in the blender game.

Gimp, like blender, has a bit of a learning curve (I never noticed it), but using the view and image menus to create and snap to a grid helps. I'm also going to these textures in my 3d game.

Here is a story image of a jail cell.

I'm not much of an artist

I'm not much of an artist either, but a Jack of Spades. I have some tutorial videos and tricks for blender. https://www.youtube.com/user/PKFacade/videos

I could probably do 4x textures.

I'm glad someone is using my stuff. Can you point me to the thread on the forums?

Nice one Christiandasi.

I'm going to be honest with you; I've never done human sprites, or spritesheets. This is my first attempt (I mainly do 3d, but challenge). This is the character, I'm going to make clothing, but if you want anims, they will be very basic (if at all). I'll continue with armor and clothing (should be easy since the character is mapped out). I used your character as a template, but I tend to do several styles myself.
