Hi, I know OGA is not the best place do discuss this but I STRONGLY reccommend doing projects for your son. I know firsthand the problems that it can create with not learning responsibility because my parents did this to me. It sends a message when a parent goes and learns about something he/she knows nothing about in order to bail their son out. If this becomes a pattern integrity, honesty, and responsibility are thrown out the window and grades are more important. The ends becomes more important than the means which should not be the case with school.
That being said, consistency is important and it is too late for you to back out. Scratch https://scratch.mit.edu is a great place to make simple games like the one you want. I think you should learn how to make the game and then teach him how to do it. Making it should take less than 45 minutes. I also reccomend not making it isometric, an RPG view would be a lot easier. But really, please, for the sake of your son do not do things like this again.
I'm pretty new as well but I thought i could offer some suggestions. I think that the overall style needs to stay more consistent. For example his legs look very blocky, and the rest of the body is much more curved. He has really detailed 3 tone shading under the hood but not much anywhere else.
I think the body shape looks good. I'm not sure about what you want the style to be but the head looks too circlular to me. The eyes have a nice lost boy feel to them idk why. The shadows could make more sense, so shadows at the bottom of his head and under the jacket. I think overall everything is a good start except for the backpack. In my opinion the backpack needs to be completely redone. THe straps are very awkward and the thing itself. I'm not sure what the dark parts are supposed to represent.
This sounds like an incredible puzzle idea. I think that all the complex things like enemies, timers, and opposite clones will make the game very fun and interesting as long as you introduce them level by level. Make sure the different types of clones are easily distinguishable though. I think this is great, a very beginner level project but with a lot of potential! GL :)
kagerato do you think it would be okay to only use the same art style with the grass? I have other ideas for cliffs and things but generally I think grass will be the hardest thing to draw. I don't think I will be able to come up with a whole new style in a few months, especially with my experience.
WOW! Thanks so much clint the color replacement thing was really really useful. I actually somewhat have an understanding of how the tiles work now. I'll keep your suggestion in mind too kagerato. So now, do you guys think that I should directly copy this art style or go for my own. Am I even allowed to use the same colors?
Thank you all for your replies, I will try clint's approach of editing it and seeing how it changes things. I have another question. Do you guys understand the logic behind this pixel placement yourselves?
Can you give me a general overview of what the colors are for then? I don't understand it. They dont look like shadows or outlines. They are all over the place but when you zoom out, it just works. It looks incredible. It looks like perfectly rouunded hd vector art, but I cant understand HOW.

Clarification, so you are trying to make him able to shoot in any direction while walking in any direction?

Nice job and good luck :)
