[unpaid] seeking 2D (GUI and graphics) artists for Freelords game
Hi all,
i am one of the admin of the Freelords project.
The project is licensed under the GPLv2 license.
We are looking for graphic artists that can help us to create completely new graphics for the game.
The game is basically a medieval/fantasy/epic strategy game (very similar to the old Warlords game) and we are right now starting with the implementation of the UI.
The freelords website is this one http://sourceforge.net/projects/freelords/
We would like to achieve a good quality 2D graphics, starting from the UI and going through all needed graphics such backgrounds,
tiles for the maps, units and so on.
We also need some UI experts to let us make a good Interface for the game.
Some example of what we already have is

http://freelords.sourceforge.net/request-for-art/ruin.png

just to let you understand the style of the graphics.
We would like to have the sources of the images so Gimp artists would be preferred but also Photoshop artists
are accepted.
Note that all the graphics must be released under free license (pheraps GPL or a compatible license).
We have a ML that we use to synchronize the work between developers at this address https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freelords-devel
But you can also contact me at this address patton73@users.sourceforge.net
Thanks in advance for any help.
Andrea.
I wanted to check out this game but after downloading it I can not start it running. First I launched "server" and then the "client" but the client does not see the server.
Just start the server in a shell and in another shell a client.
Then to connect the server just push the "connect to server" button and use "127.0.0.1" and port 8090 as server ip and server port.
The main lobby will start where you can connect N clients and start to chat.
Right now this is what is implemented.
This is an early alpha version to demonstrate that network works.
A lot of work is already done in the backend. The next release will have a game map viewer.
But we would like to work on UI usage before assembling the complete UI.
Andrea.
As an "artist" I find this confusing. Was able to connect by manually entering the IP and port number. From the screen shots on your project page I saw some game-play graphics but after connecting to the server I can not start playing. All I have is the chat window.
Well as I said right now the game is under development, since we rewrote the complete backend.
You can only chat right now.
But we need graphics for the UI.If you like to help us just subscribe the ML and we can start discussing the UI (for the lobby, buttons, etc etc).
OGA has a bunch of nice GUI art work. But I guess you have checked it out already?
We would like to have new original graphics.
Don't worry about original. Worry about suitable. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.
This would be a good start:
