Photography, textures, and what the heck is needed?
Hello! I am primarily a Illustrator (I go by TheDikTatorTot on all my socials) and recently broke into 3D modeling for my own use as references for my graphic novel project, and I just wanted to talk a little about my process and what it is people need in the world of textures.
Firstly I take all my own photos for my textures as I like to take my hand-me-down digital canon with me everywhere lol and sometimes we actually get the opportunity to do some vacationing around and we drive everywhere to do that. So, most of the photos I get are disgointed in styles and themes, so I have been slowly collecting things that are grouped together by genre and theme.
That being said, I have about 1700 textures that are not ready yet to be shared with the handful of sets I have already uploaded only being partially edited (I usually only edit the 128px version, but I may start editing the 328px versions so all versions are edited and cleaner), and I am just looking to tighten up my scope of work and figure out what I work on that might be good enough to share with others.
At the current moment I have the following categories; Abstract, Animals, Bark & Wood, Brick & Blocks, Buildings & Construction, Clutter, Concrete, Dirt & Mud, Doors, Effects, Fabric, Faunra, Fences, Figures, Fire, Floor & Ceiling, Flora, Fur & Feathers, Grafitti, Grass & Groundcover, Gravel & Sand, Greebles, Light & Lenses, Metal, Objects, Organic, Paper, Roof, Skybox, Stone & Gems, Vehicles, Walls, Water, Windows.
This is currently how I organize what I have going and it will probably be subject to change in the future but is there anything you see missing? Is there a type of texture you have been looking for but can't find? I love making these things for myself but I also love to share the materials I make, so please let me know if there is any niche's I could fill!
Also, these are the programs I use (Croctile3D, TextureRipper, SLK_Img2Pix & Clip Studio Paint).
