I need one(and just one) sprite for my game
Hello everybody,
First of all I'd like to apologize for any possible grammar or spelling mistakes(since I am not a native speaker) and for a violation of a forum rule(please inform me and I'd love to edit the post).
With that said I am a student developer and I have a project that I am really ambitious about. I am working on it by myself and it's moving slowly but surely. So if we were to have a summary of the concept;
The game is a "journal based survival game with a focus on the story with the survival thing being more of a gimmick to keep player busy". A harsh winter hits when "our guy" is alone at his log cabin and he has to go out looting for wood, food etc. with a number of random events happening everytime he goes out. So to put that in perspective imagine a guy in a cabin as 2D sidescroller pixelart type of visuals in a dark setting(since the story is based heavily on loss of loved ones etc.). He moves in the cabin eats, checks how much wood, food he has etc. he walks to the door and interacts with it and after that everything will be journal based.
So from all of my ideas I chose this because it could be done with minimal visual assets since I am in no position to pay for some. After months of search for cheap sprites that I could use I have nothing at the time of posting. And to be clear I don't have the cabins visuals too, but it just feels like so much to ask for. So I am in deep need of a walking sprite for "the guy" and the cabin visuals but I will try to do something about the cabin visuals. As for the gameplay I have the "gimmicky survival stats and looting system" in its place and the "random journal events system" is getting together really well(it will probably be finished after a week or two from this post).
So I need help about those things. Anyone who can help to create a sprite(which I can't pay for at the moment but will do as soon as the game sells a single copy), or direct me at a direction for already existing assets I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Edit 1: As I looked deeper into the forum having some reference art to specify the art style is helpful for the readers so I will link a game that almost has the exact thing that I want.

The character in the example kinda reminds me of Calciumtrice's work. Would any of his characters satisfy your needs?

Thank you for the suggestion! The only problem I have with this and all the other existing assets is that they are mostly based on combat styled characters, I am going for a "civilian" in a cold environment. I actually started considering drawing what I need myself since I wasn't able to find anything that suits my needs and the financial impossibility of paying someone.
There is my first attempt, I spent almost a full day on this and there are no animations yet but I will try to learn and make those myself too. I'd really like to hear what you think!
Edit: I'd still appreciate help of someone more capable and experienced than me.

That is very cool! Il have a go at animating him, I'm still a novice myself really but would try and create if you would like? What would you need for your states? And how quick do you want them, I won't be very quick I don't think. Well done on this, it's very very good, great job. :)

Thank you so much! It's my first attempt and your kind words are definetly a booster to work harder.
About the states, idle, walking, going out and in from a door and just maybe getting into bed should be all I need. After all "The Guy" will spend so little time inside the house, and insides of the house will be the only visual aspects of the game that player will see. So I want to have that part a little detailed if possible.
There is not much of a rush really, I just want to attend to a local expo this winter and show the game to people there. The last submission date for the expo is November, I just want to be ready until then. The Expo won't take place until February but the submission form requires screenshots of the game so that's my only concern in terms of time.
Wel, I'm pretty sure il be able to have those by November, what view is your game? Isometric, orthometric or side scrolling? Il take your image and work with that if OK, least gives me a size of the Sprite.:)

Thank you very much! It will be side scrolling but about the image; I just downloaded the free version of Aseprite and made it there so I won't be able save(export) it, I just took a screenshot to upload here. It's just a rough idea about what I need really. Size of the drawing it self is 20x60 pixels, canvas is 50x100. A more detailed and bigger size won't hurt and actually may be a better idea. I'll keep trying to create some more things(a more detailed version of this etc.) I can't wait to see what you(and I) will come up with!
That's not an issue, I can use it as a reference, bit bigger ok, what might help us here is your games canvas, for perspective purposes and keep a consistent looking theme. It certainly helps when making animations for particular movements, like opening a door. :)

Our guy is inside a log cabin in a remote place, a harsh winter is at bay(it even may be the Ice Age!). He struggles to find the resources he needs to survive(wood, food etc). Player will be able to walk around the cabin in a side scrolling manner and when they leave the cabin the journal pops up and will be "text based" after that, he will encounter random events that he can make choices that will effect his "loot" and survival chance. After a while things will have a sharp turn and it will become a "sad" story so a "heavier and darker" theme will fit better.
That sounds like a cool concept, what is your screen resolution going to be?
