Just a quick tilesheet I made for practice. The background repeats along both axis.

Drawn using the DB32 palette for compatibility. The main environment uses 4 colors.

This is a nice set. In my opinion, the background needs to be darker to help the foreground stick out and improve the separation.

I 2nd cdoty's opinion that this is a nice set!
Let me add that to my eye the background should go lighter to help the foreground pop better.  Specifically, I would remove the darker grey bits, or maybe just lighten them up considerably.  Well, just some feedback since you said this one was for practice, although I'd say if this is your practice round I can't wait to see what comes next! :)

Yeah this was just something I threw together on a live stream. Something like 3 hours to design all the tiles and build the mockup. I guess I'm also imagining the background with parallax, which is why I don't really see the issues you bring up with the separation.

I'm already working on some new stuff though so I probably won't come back to this.
