basic blender queries

Hi all,

Forewarned, I'm  no graphics person so people would have to be extremely dumb with me.

I have been trying to see some blender images and see if they are animated by default (dunno if they are or are not)

For this I first tried to find any blender files if they are on site.

Found many on the site.

I dunno which one is good to just see animation (not do anything) . I know for animation you have to render the images in quick succession for something to animate (have movement) so need to have at least 24 frames in a second to fool the eyes.

$ blender --version
Blender 2.63 (sub 0)
    build date: 2012-05-12
    build time: 18:41:03
    build revision: unknown
    build platform: Linux
    build type: Release
    build c flags:  -fopenmp  -msse2  -msse -pipe -fPIC -funsigned-char -fno-strict-aliasing  -Wall -Wcast-align -Werror=declaration-after-statement -Werror=implicit-function-declaration -Werror=return-type -Wstrict-prototypes -Wno-char-subscripts -Wno-unknown-pragmas -Wpointer-arith -Wunused-parameter -Wwrite-strings -Wno-error=unused-but-set-variable
    build c++ flags:  -D__STDC_CONSTANT_MACROS -fopenmp  -msse2  -msse -pipe -fPIC -funsigned-char -fno-strict-aliasing  -Wall -Wno-invalid-offsetof -Wno-sign-compare
    build link flags: -pthread
    build system: CMake

So didn't know which one is a good model to start with and started with this one :-

http://opengameart.org/content/ba-2-blast-all-bot-mark-2

This could have be a difficult one or a simple one (don't know) .

The first part of rendering an image was easy with just clicking on rendering image.

The second one is much more complex and dunno if there is an animation and if there is, where it is kept.

I do see lots of .png files being saved in /tmp (no idea if an animation would be there at the end of it or not.) I haven't touched any settings apart from Blender > Render Animation (F12) .

Looking forward to know if I just made a fool or myself and I have to do something for the animation to happen or what ?

surt's picture

Genrally with 3d game assets you don't render the animation.

Try Alt-A in the 3d view for real-time animation.

Red warrior needs caffeine badly.

How do I make 3d view work ? Just rendering the image or something else ?
